If you are in the business of selling insurance, either as an insurer or an insurance broker, then you will probably know the importance of leads in the business. Since the time when the concept of insurance was introduced, the business has always relied on leads (about prospective buyers for policy) in order to make sales.

Before the advent of the Internet, getting those leads used to be a difficult undertaking, often requiring a lot of 'cold-calling' and 'door-knocking' if one was to ever know the people who were likely to buy the policy they happened to be selling. There are at least a couple of ways through which a insurance provider or 're-seller' can go about getting health insurance leads the easy way.

These vendors are in the business of developing highly optimized websites, through which they harvest the health insurance leads from the people who are likely to be looking to purchase the insurance, and which they then sell to insurance vendors and brokers who are likely to have more use for such leads; seeing the lead vendors themselves typically have no use for the leads themselves, as they are not in the business of (directly) selling insurance.

The second way you can go about getting health insurance leads the easy way, if you are a health insurance vendor or broker, and don't want to directly purchase the leads from the people who are directly in the business of selling such leads is to try to harvest the directly. The way to do this would be by developing a highly optimized website on health insurance (optimized for the phrases the people who are likely to purchase such health insurance are likely to be doing their searches with), so that when the prospective health insurance buyers come searching for it, it is your website that they first chance upon.

Of course, this route has its costs too, and sometimes they can turn out to be higher than the costs of purchasing the health insurance leads directly from the vendors who already have highly optimized sites for the same, not to mention the time it would take before you start getting the leads if you decide to go about it on your own.
